Write Your Electeds. Today.
A template for demanding action on the ICE killings in Minneapolis
I’m trying not to flood people’s inboxes with updates from me. I’ll likely be posting more in the coming days, but I won’t be sending those out via email. Check back if you’re curious.
This one, however, I am emailing. This is the letter I wrote to all of my elected representatives today: Senators Ossoff and Warnock and Representative McCormick. I’m sharing it with you to use as a template. Feel free to copy any parts that speak to you and send them to your own electeds.
Don't copy the whole thing word-for-word. Getting the exact same letter from different people makes it less effective. But take what resonates with you and use it. Make it your own. Add your own anger. Then send it.
Dear [Name]
I am writing as your constituent to demand that you speak out immediately about the federal killings in Minneapolis and take concrete action to stop this violence.
This morning, ICE agents shot a 37-year-old American citizen more than ten times. They claimed he was brandishing a weapon. Witness video shows he was holding a phone. They pistol-whipped him in the face, then executed him in the street.
This is the third shooting by federal agents in Minneapolis in less than three weeks. On January 7th, they killed Renee Good, a mother of three, shooting her through her car window. The administration called it “self-defense.” Video proved they lied.
Since September, ICE agents have opened fire on people nine times. Four Americans are dead.
This is not immigration enforcement. This is federal occupation. Armed goon squads are terrorizing American cities, killing American citizens, and lying about it. Georgians do not need or want this in our streets.
I demand that you take immediate action:
Publicly condemn these killings and demand ICE be withdrawn from Minneapolis and all American cities immediately
Introduce or co-sponsor legislation to defund ICE and redirect resources to actual public safety
Demand full investigations at every level into these shootings
Demand that Minnesota and Minneapolis law enforcement be given complete, unobstructed access to all materials and evidence from today’s shooting and Renee Good’s killing
Demand accountability for ICE agents who have killed American citizens, including criminal prosecution where warranted
Call for the immediate resignation of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, who has defended these killings and called American citizens “domestic terrorists”
The time has come to pick a side and act on it. Silence is complicity. Measured statements are inadequate. Georgians are watching to see who will stand up for us and who will enable federal agents to execute Americans in the streets.
Any of my elected representatives who do not get loud about this will not receive my vote in the next election. I will actively work to elect someone who will stand up for Georgians and Americans.
A man was shot in the back more than ten times this morning while holding his phone. I expect to hear from you - publicly and forcefully - within 24 hours.
Sincerely,
